About This Piece

Turtle Island

In my community, we call our earth Turtle Island. It is believed in one of our creation stories that the Turtle carries the teachings and world on its back. The turtle represents wisdom, healing, protection, and health. I decided to incorporate these florals on the turtle's back to represent how beautiful the Turtle is for carrying us into this world. Only 100 prints of this design were made.

Sunbear

I am bear clan, and I strongly resonate with the bear medicine. In my community, the bear represents wisdom, they are the healers and the protectors. I often times see bears in my area and they always come to me when I need to see them most. They remind me to rest when I need to and to be strong when needed. Like the bear, we cannot pour from an empty cub. Embrace each season of change, and don't be afraid of rest. Rest in a colonial world, is resistance. This painting was made after my first piece, Bear Medicine, and while Bear Medicine represents rest, this bear represents strength, courage, activity, and energy. Only 100 prints of this design were made.
