About these pieces

Snow and Starlight

Traditionally, in my community, the night sky was used as a map, clock, and calendar for thousands of years. In addition, the stars helped us receive spiritual messages from our ancestors and guidance within ourselves. This woodland flower, surrounded by stars and greenery, reminds us of resilience, growth, and the quiet magic that carries us through each season. A timeless piece to honour both the present moment and all that is yet to flourish - even in the stillness of winter, life and beauty endure.

Sacred Cycles

Created for the Indigenous Youth and Community Futures Fund (IYCFF), a program of the Laidlaw Foundation, this piece is a celebration of resilience, community, and the enduring connection between generations, land, and spirit.

In the sky, the sun and Grandmother moon represent the sacred balance and cycles, while the northern lights dance, symbolizing the guiding presence of our Ancestors. At the heart of this piece, a sacred fire is surrounded by several cultural teachings: one smudges with sacred medicines, cleansing and grounding the space; another drums and sings, honouring the rhythm of life and the heartbeat of Mother Earth. Nearby, a tan hide is shown, signifying learning the skills and knowledge passed down through generations for living in harmony with the land.

Winter Solstice

This piece reflects the beauty of the slower winter season, when we gather close to loved ones, honour the quiet of long nights, and find connection under the moon and stars. The Winter Solstice marks the longest night of the year, a time to share stories and a reminder to embrace stillness, warmth, and togetherness as the world rests and renews.

Heart of Resilience

The women in this painting honour the strength and resilience of Indigenous women. The women are at the heart of everything we do, they are our water warriors, protectors, mothers and care givers. Despite enduring generations of hardship in a patriarchal and colonized society, the Indigenous women in this piece are not hiding—they are reclaiming their power. Their hair in this painting is grown long and strong. In my community our hair is sacred. We are taught to grow our hair long, and to be proud of our identity. This artwork is a tribute to the enduring spirit of Indigenous women and their vital role in sustaining the well-being and spirit of our communities.

Migizi’s Flight

The Eagle, Migizi is one of our most revered and respected beings in Creation. These beautiful birds represent our relationship and connection to the Creator and love. Only the eagle has the ability and strength to fly higher than any other animal, thereby placing it closest to the Creator than all others. In my community, I’ve been taught that when we pray the Eagle brings our prayers to the Creator. In the sky, I've created a sun with 5 rays stemming from it. I've decided to include 5 in this piece, to represent the 4 directions - North, South, East, and West—and the Centre, which is us, the people. It signifies balance, harmony, and unity, reminding us of our connection to all aspects of Creation.

Tree of Life

In this piece, the four larger flowers in each corner represent the four directions—guiding our paths. The seven small red flowers woven into the design symbolize the Seven Grandfather Teachings: wisdom, love, respect, bravery, honesty, humility, and truth. In my community, I’ve been taught that these teachings are at the core of living a good life, Mino-Bimaadiziwin, and guide us in how we treat one another and the world around us. This piece is a tribute to the deep-rooted values that shape our way of life and our connection to all of Creation.

Dance of Celebration

This piece is a vibrant reminder to celebrate! The flowing shawl transforms into ribbons and confetti, symbolizing the beauty of honouring special moments. In my community, I’ve been taught that dancing is more than movement — it is an offering of good thoughts for ourselves, our families, the land, and all of Creation. This piece honours and symbolizes that spirit, celebrating you, your journey, and the achievements already made and those yet to come.
